Feel for you - 2 nasty surprises in a week.

Drain plug not properly torqued would be sufficient with a bit of driving and an impact.
Hopefully no oil starvation / engine or turbo damage occurred?
Good luck!
Forgot to mention the most important bit - turbo has been knackered and needs replacing!

That doesn't suprise me, once the turbo loses oil pressure they will blow almost intantly. I had same problem in a different car, cracked the sump lost some oil, turbo blew even though I turned the engine off instantly

If as you say, your dealer has always performed your oil changes (and particularly the last one), then improper tightening of the oil drain plug, or failure to use a new crush washer can be traced back to the dealer - who should incur all costs of repair. Good luck. Hope it all turns out well for you.

BTW... in over 40 years of driving, I've never had an oil drain plug come loose. Also, if it wasn't tightened, it doesn't just "unscrew" all at once. It would have worked its way loose over time. And a loose plug will seep oil around the threads, resulting in a slow drip of oil until it finally works out all the way. Did you not notice any oil under the car leading up to the "dump"? Just curious.

Need opinions here please.

On Wednesday of this week someone rear ended me. Not bad but damaged the rear diffuser. The main problem occurred whilst driving home as the engine let go of all it's oil.
I note your later discovery that the drain bolt came out. I had exactly this problem 26 years ago when my new 320i had 1800 mi on it. It had received a break-in oil change at around 700 mi. Dealer did a compression check which was fine (he said), and gave me a repair manual and a nice coffee-table book. Sold the car 1.5 years ago at 196,000 mi. with no problems in the engine. At least have the dealer do whatever would be done to check for permanent damage (e.g. compression check) and assuming he/she says it's OK, make sure you document everything and keep the paperwork (which should mention that the oil drain plug fell out) forever. If the dealer said it was OK (and it's the dealer who did the last oil change) you might have a fraud claim if you discover some time down the road that the dealer was lying. If, as someone noted, it was a slow leak and you shut it down as soon as the warning came on, there's probably no damage.
