i got my 545i in april and this is going to be the first winter i havea rear wheel drive car.. i was wondering how does the car handle in snow?? should i be worried?? my friend has a 05 g35 coupe and that handles like shit in the snow. he cant go over 30 mphs in the snow.. is it going to be the same for me? any feedback will help.

P.S i do have the sport package if that make a difference.

Tell you one thing here bud... my 1st year with an E60 and I got my car lowered, too. It has an H&R spring kit but I put the stock wheels back on for Winter here in Chicago. We got about 12" of snow last night in the burbs, really bad driving conditions.... and the car surprisingly handles like a champ with the DTC enabled. REALLY WORKS!

Having said that, it sucks that my car is so low to the ground because I can hear the snow scraping the bottom of the car. ehehehe.

I have an '05 545i in Denver, and I'm on my second winter in it now. I did invest in a set of winter wheels and tires. I will say, though, that with a little sense and a gentle touch the car is fine in the snow. The traction control helps keep any inadvertent wheelspin under control, and the car seems very composed.

I switched from an X5 in October of '07 and was nervous about this. It's turned out fine, which is a relief - now I can drive V8 5 series cars around here in good conscience for the foreseeable future!

It won't ruin it initially. It'll decay car parts overtime I believe. But its inevitable. you've got a car, might as well use it right?

But you definitely need to clean it every few weeks in the winter. Keep the paint and undercarriage of the car salt-free.

Use the car, don't worry about it. its an XI! =)

A pair of questions:

a) do I have to use DTC mode on the snow? Or normal DSC?
b) which pressure should I keep to my wintertyres? I have 275/30-19 and 245/35-19, Vredestein.

(a little review on dry road: they are silent on highway, but, obviously, compared to Pilot Sport2 they have less grip: if I start fast at the traffic light they spin and during hard brakings the car slips a little ahead)

winter tires/rims should not be staggered. for best results get 4 245 rims/tires
