i think the power is good enough if you are not using power hungry speakers.
but the Golf does not have a boot space for big subwoofers to be mounted.
you may need a custom made box. a long one with a 10'' sub.

Really depends on what kind of music does Junior like to listen to. The above speakers have very good sensitivity. With 50W RMS, its enough to produce excellent musical and vocal reproduction. From my experience, 50W RMS can easily give you very comfortable bass reproduction too. However if you are looking at producing powerful bass, strong enough to let you feel the thumping effect, you will need at least 100W RMS on these speakers.
As for the subwoofer, 250W rms is quite decent for music like classical, vocal, music, new age and some pops. For rocks and heavy bass music, it is still enough if you don't listen at high volumes.
I had a 180W RMS AMP driving a 12" 450W RMS woofer. Its good enough to pounce your heart a little but if I pump up the volume, I can hear some distortion. What I like in my music is for it to be not so loud, clear and yet have bass strong enough for my body to feel it. That is why I'm looking into a 1000W RMS AMP and a 800W RMS subwoofer.

10 inch is definitely good enough. I remember the good old days when people used to mount the subs on the rear seat backs. I'm sure there is a good reason why this practise has been discontinued. Space in the boot is precious, so even a box would probably not do. Maybe the only thing to do is to mount a board behind the rear seat in place of the original flimsy one. The sub can be mounted below that and the board can be removed when the need for space arises?
myabe you can consider to use one corner of the space just above the wheel well and cover it with a 1/2" mdf board and then mount the sub on it. port it to extend the low end freq.

i had my RTA done today took 5 hours of tuning.
he said i have very good front speakers lotus refference.he says if my insulation and mounting of the speakers can be done on a solid base then the bass produced is sufficient that i may not even need a sub woofer.
too loud bass and you end up having alot of vibrations and it becomes noisy.
running active is definately better than passive and a processor to bring out the vocals the clarity is very clear,i could really tell the difference after siiting in a few cars.
but guys this is an endless mod.i have done enough and promise myself not to mod further with my ice.

Glad that you learn alot from ICE!
As along as you are happy with your setup, that is the ultimate!
