Installed a Genisis in my E46 previously but removed it when I sold the car. Quite a good amp. Now waiting to fix it into the GTI when delivered next week. Can anyone recommend some good speakers which I can install without burning a hole in my pocket? The ride is afterall for Jr and he does not believe in thump thump bass, etc. Furthermore with the GTI, there's no place to mount a sub unless you replace the rear panel with a chipboard platform.
How many channels does your Genisis AMP have and what's its power? Do you know the maximum size of the speakers that you can fit into the GTI?

I've considered the following 6.5" speakers before:
1. Diamond Hex S600S
2. Focal 162K2P
3. DLS Iridium 6.2i
4. DLS Nobelium 6.2

Mine is the profile 5. 4 X 50 rms and 1 X 250 rms.
Haven't got the car yet, so I don't know; but may take the advise of some bros here and cut to fit bigger mid range speakers. I don't think the output of the amp is good enough though.

i think the power is good enough if you are not using power hungry speakers.
but the Golf does not have a boot space for big subwoofers to be mounted.
you may need a custom made box. a long one with a 10'' sub.

Really depends on what kind of music does Junior like to listen to. The above speakers have very good sensitivity. With 50W RMS, its enough to produce excellent musical and vocal reproduction. From my experience, 50W RMS can easily give you very comfortable bass reproduction too. However if you are looking at producing powerful bass, strong enough to let you feel the thumping effect, you will need at least 100W RMS on these speakers.

As for the subwoofer, 250W rms is quite decent for music like classical, vocal, music, new age and some pops. For rocks and heavy bass music, it is still enough if you don't listen at high volumes.

I had a 180W RMS AMP driving a 12" 450W RMS woofer. Its good enough to pounce your heart a little but if I pump up the volume, I can hear some distortion. What I like in my music is for it to be not so loud, clear and yet have bass strong enough for my body to feel it. That is why I'm looking into a 1000W RMS AMP and a 800W RMS subwoofer.
