Ed: will be out of town this week. Will let it run for a week, and if no bad feedback, i'll post a diy or we can do a group install

I kinda hacked it together by twisting wires. I'd want to solder it permanently. update next week .

Hi,

Am looking to buy either a GS300 or a BMW 523i. Friends have advised me that if I am planning to keep for 5 years, buy the BMW, if I plan to keep for 10 years, then go for the Lexus....implying that the Lexus is more reliable and lasting. Any comments?

I personally like the BMW 523i after test driving....much, much better than the older 520i. I also find the BMW much more relaxing and comfortable to drive versus the GS300. Handling is tons better then the GS. Can someone advise me on strategies to get the best price from PML or the sales rep? Am looking to get it within the next few months before my current ride gets scrapped in June 06.

Many Thanks,

Steve

Not totally true steve, there are more older BMWs on the road compared to Lexus IMHO. And whether any car can last more than 5 to 10 or even 20 years depends on how well its maintained by the owner. Whether it has high mileage, driven correctly, done regular maintainence etc all has effects on the car. Sometimes the car might be a lemon be it a BMW or Lexus. Bottom line is, luck, mileage and regular maintenence does affect a car's lifespan.

BMWs drive is definetly better than the GS. However it comes down to what you desire or need. GS is a more luxury car, thick carpets, electric everything, quiet, soft leather all round and gives a comfortable ride. The BM however is more focused on the driver, the power delivered, handling, braking, more of a sporty drive compared to the GS.

From what I know the current price of a 523i will set you back to about 178k. If you take a 100k loan, maybe can minus 3k or something. It also comes with a 3 year free service if you book by this month. Prices went up recently due to the increase is COE prices and also PML has already hit the sales quota for the year ending. Xenons and PDCs are standard. If you order now the new batch will be coming with a push start/stop button. Just like the E90.

Strategies wise, you gotta ask the Big daddy, Edlee..

Hi Steve,

I just got my 523 last week and I must add that I am thoroughly enjoying the ride it offers. I got mine at the low end of COE at $170K inclusive of 3-yr all inclusive maintenance. Check with Viola of Alexandra if you want a good PML rep.

Cheers,
