Man, that?s just ridiculous! Can?t you buy and register your car else were? What if you are working in the States, you buy your car here and then just bring it back to Denmark.

May be I sound to na?ve, but is there any loop holes? Are the social programs there really worth 200% + taxes?

Serge.

No you can't.... the danish tax authorities are looking all the time for swedish registered cars in Copenhagen... you might get away with it for some time but at some point you get busted.... I think that you can be in denmark with a forreign registered car for around three months... that's it... there are no loop holes at all... it's a very controlled system...

Remember that there is free health insurance, free schools, money for young people while there are studying..... the list is long, but anyway I don't think it's worth the 200%...

And if you have a Norwegian citizenship (which most Norwegians do ), you're not allowed to even drive a car in Norway, registered in any foreign country. People who are caught driving on e.g. Swedish or British plates are fined heavily.

Come and park your car at my place in Copenhagen, then we are 2 E60's at my place, which is a nice, silent place.. Otherwice my dad have a very nice carage in central Copenhagen, you can borrow? ?

Thanks for the offer. We'll be staying Frederickssund, and I don't know how much time we'll be in Copenhagen. We will probably take advantage of the car and explore other places in Denmark.

We are staying with friends we met on our last trip to Denmark. I better explain to them that our 775 500 kr car does not make us wealthy

Best regards,
Greg

You don't have to be so worried. Your car will be safe as long as you don't park it in areas where you wouldn't have parked it in the US either.

But you will probably get a little more attention than when you crossed Germany? <_<

Enjoy your stay!

Yeah, I expect some attention. My friend's father-in-law is an American who has lived in Europe for 20+ years. Currently he lives in Denmark. When he heard that my friend bought a Dodge Durango, he said, "Wow, that's a nice car!"

When I heard that my friend bought a Durango, I said, "Wow, that's a piece of sh*t!"

530i = 775 500 kr = ? 102.443

530d = 792 457 kr =? ? 104.683

+ automatic = ? 7800...

This country SUCKS ! there are 180 % taxes on cars + VAT!! (25%)

I have been in Sweden for 7 years, and have getting used to normaly carprices, so after moving back to Denmark, it's lik a chock for me again..

I work at an Audi dealer here in Denmark, and due to the high taxes, we install a lot of equiptment afterwards, because that's cheaper than buy navigation, leather seats and so on from factory! The danish cars are so boring!

But anyway, I can drive our E60 whem i'm at mon and dad's place?

I'm not a terribly political person and I'll admit I'm no expert on European policy, other than the European belief in social welfare and re-distribution of wealth, but why is it that European tax policy seems punitive in nature? That is, taxation seems to be used as a means to affect behavior rather than using taxes to pay for services.

there is no extra tax on new cars in the uk except the standard vat, the rate for that is %17.5... sale tax in the usa is around %8 depending on the state , i paid 27000 gbp for my car approx 50000 usd for my car on the road back at the end of sept so maybe its not rip off britain after all
