What?s up.
I?v heard from different sources that some modifications will be in the production of E60 early next year.
Rumour or not.
Please check this link with an interview with Mr Bruhnke (BMW M Manager / President )

Very Interesting HIO. It sounds quite fishy that the president of the M division can say off hand that a modification to the entire E60 platform needs to be done prior to the M5 build. I suspect he let the cat out of the bag and will be whipped when he gets back to Germany. No word from BMWAG yet -- I wonder how bad the problem could be and whether a retrofit will be in order?

Perhaps it?s something to do with the poor results BMW got in the EuroNCAP crashtest, they hasn?t gone oficial about the results yet.
I think BMW will have pressrelease now in November or at least a new crashtest will be done to get more positive results.
I?ve ordered my car to be built in early jan-feb, but I will definitely try to delay the manufactoring date until we all know more.

M5 thread about the same problem.

Repost from there:

OK...
The rumours I've heard and nobody at BMW wants to confirm...:

The E60 "failed" in the EuroNCAP and got "only" 3 of 5 possible stars in the rating...
Results are not released, since BMW is going to solve the poroblems...
The German T?V heard about that and took a closer look at the next "to be released" 5series, what is the Emmy... and refused the car...
Now BMW is working on making the car safer, so that it doesn'T fail again in the EuroNCAP and that the M5 will get licensed...

But those are rumours...

The truth might be somewhere in between...

So far, NOBODY at BMW is saying ANYTHING, and they even say... "Euro what?"... so it looks like there is a major problem...

Ice - I thought the 5 series did well with the side impact NHSTA crash test here in the USA. Although I can find no data on their website. Does anyone know the methodology of the EuroNCAP Test?
