I have a 2006 E60 520d SE on which the idrive (the whole entertainment system was not working) I changed the cd player unit and it all started working fine. The unit I found was from a 2007 LCI model but fitted perfectly fine.
10 minutes in driving it, the idrive system turned off and the fuel gauge, speedometer, RPM and MPG just froze on the speed i was doing. No lights coming on the dash at all.
All functions work perfectly, the lights, indicators, cruise control etc.
Car starts perfectly first time, and there is no other faults that I can see.
The car had a warning light for a steering lock where a BMW specialist told me it could be due to a faulty battery.
But, the battery currently seems fine, all fuses seem fine too.
Any thoughts on what it could be? Don’t want to risk not knowing how fast I’m going and not knowing how much fuel I have

so the car is a 2006 model. I disconnected the battery for an hour this morning and re-connected to see if it would all reset. (Was told to do this by a BMW specialist). But nothing changed. Earliest I can get it seen is next Monday!😑
