True. Cruise Control shows up green when activated.
+1, in addition in the i-drive menu you can select which option you want to display in HUD. i have an 05' 545 and no RPM display or option. see pic below of my hud options.
If it's out of date pls advise if there is a software upgrade to install.

Jep, and what comes to colors, this normal (not M5 HUD) shows colors just fine. Cruise=Green, Seatbelts=Red, Rest=Orange. Hopefully someone is able to find knowledge for this... Still I think sourcode script for rpm view has to be bit different compared M5, 545i vs. 535d... different max rounds, red lines etc. So just vondering if this code is totally behind BMW = it is there but not suitable for other models,,, not available etc..
Someone have to crack this
Sometimes stupid when other models have features not available to other... but I think 500+hp is major feature well enought.
Means = If I byu M5 some day, HUD RPM view has to be my reason.

about colors... on HUD

I have 05 530i with HUD and Active Cruise Control and it shows 4 different colors:

Speed- Dark Orange
selected cruise speed- Green
some warnings and detection of wehicle driving ahead- Bright orange maybe more like Yellow
warnings-seatbelts and too short distance of wehicle ahead- Red

+1 on that

There are four colors on the standard HUD. Orange, Green, Yellow, Red.

Nope.
Hold the HUD button pressed until the menu appears.
You can now go through the menu by pressing the HUD button, and select positions by holding it pressed for a little longer. If the menu dissappears you have pressed it too long.
You need to enable the display of all functions just as the secret tach menu...

Wow, can you give me a little more help. I can get the secret menu to appear and can scroll through the different options, but I cant seem to make any sense of it. I cant make anything work or change. If I remember correctly there were about 20 different options, do you know what I am supposed to do next?

It's too long ago I used mine, so I have to check it in my car first.

But what I remember is, there is a position to unlock the menu. The code you have to enter by pressing the button is the last seven nubers/digits of your VIN added.
I'll check it today and post the instructions then.
But I'm pretty sure they can be found somewhere on the forum...
