I just ordered a 545 to replace my 540.
For an extra fee of $400 (special order fee) I was able to order the satellite pre-wiring; allowing me to drive down to burlington, VT and have Sirius installed.
Without it, you can never add the Sirius.
Just thought you all should know.

The $400 is just the special order fee. I will also be charged for the actual option.

When I ordered the car, I brought the salesman a printout from BMW's US website showing the $75 option. He then speculated between $100-$150. He'll only know next week since it wasn't in his computer. However it was confirmed my BMW Canada that it could be done.
I called a BMW dealer in Burlington VT and ordered the Sirius module and brackets/screws; about USD$375 + 1-1.5 hrs. for installation.

In Toronto, you have to have winter tires, the cost is definitely worth it.? I find that the snow, ice and bad weather are not a problem.? I got dunlop wintersport M3's, which are great in snow and on dry.? Best investment I made in the car, I've had the traction control go off only once this winter.

As for purchasing a car or leasing, don't use MSRP as your starting point, use the invoice price.? You can go online at websites such as carcostcanada.com and for a small fee, get the invoice price with options.? You should aim for invoice + < 4 %.? If you are leasing and don't wish to keep the car at the end, tell them to base the residual on MSRP.

You can also go to edmunds.com and they will tell you techniques dealers make to get more money out of you and how you can get the best deal.

The profit for the dealer from paying MSRP on a 545 is about $ 10,000, with the salesperson making at least $ 3000 for the sale.? Not bad for a few hours work.? So you have a lot of room to manouver.

Have been lurking for a while, getting ready to lease a 530i, 2006. Just curious as to why if I lease it would be better to base the residual on MSRP, wouldn't that make the payment higher?

I am looking at a 530i with SP and HK system. Great cars and with an MSRP of 71200CAD, I was figuring about 3.5% off MSRP considering about a 7% markup.

When you lease, you pay the difference between the price of car and the residual value, calculated over a set period with interest. The smaller the difference, the less you pay.

The residual value is a percentage of what the car will be worth at the end of the leas, for example, say 50%. Base this on the MSRP.

For example, if the car costs $ 80,000, and the residual is $ 40,000, the difference, $ 40,000. This is what your lease is based on, you pay this with interest over a set period.

Now, lets say you got another $5000 of the car, so the price you pay is $ 75,000. If the residual is still $ 40,000, you now only owe $ 35,000, instead of & 37,500 (if the 50 % residual was based on the 75,000). In this example, by basing the residual on MSRP, you saved yourself $2,500.

These numbers are for illustration purposes only.

KenTO ... I'm in Toronto today (nice snow last night), how can you stand all the salt they put on the roads here, do you wash your car every day?

The salt makes me sick. I was washing my car every second day for the first few weeks but now I wash it twice a week. I think we just have to accept the fact that are cars are going to look bad and get dirty.

I am seriously thinking of going away for a vacation for the month of February in the future because I am so sick of the snow.

Or move to Arizona.

Did anyone get the invoice cost from Carscostcanada or anywhere else for the 545i (MSRP $77,700).? I am in the market for a 545i in Vancouver and was wondering what is reasonable to offer the dealer for a 545i. I am not looking for many options and was thinking of a 545i with just the sport package with the 6 speed manual or SMG.

Can anyone also recommend a good dealer and good salesperson to deal with in the Vancouver area?

Hey Robert,

In the past there have been several Salespeople for my BMW purchases. (Im on my 4th Bimmer)
'Miriam' at Park Shore BMW , she really goes above and beyond to satisfy.
'Valentino' Brian Jessel BMW , He's very Knowledgeable.
or 'Trevor' at Affinity Leasing , he's VERY knowledgable and proffesional, friend of mine, I think he gets fleet pricing. Lease or purchases.

- tell them Ceaser referred you...

good luck!

Bluetooth for Bell Mobility

I was talking to someone at Bell yesterday because I am interested in using the Bluetooth option when my car arrives. They told me they have no compatible phones.

Has anyone found a Bell Mobility phone that will work with Bluetooth in the BMW? If not, what other providers have compatible phones?

Thanks
