For those of you who live in an area where private gun ownership and carrying is permissible, and you have an inclination to keep a pistol in your car, where do you keep it?

The center console is much to small, and there is no space under the sport seats; the little space where the DVD would go if I had the SatNav is also too small. I would prefer someplace I can keep a small (locked) gun case. I would like it in easy access from the driver seat in case it is needed, but otherwise out of site and out of mind.

Any after market or DIY options?

Thanks in advance for the help.
Gun? What Gun?!?!?! I left Texas to move to Colorado so I wouldnt have to carry a gun.....

Don't tend to carry it around in the E60 though.

Must be your summer setup

In my wifes A4 there are drawers under the from seats that pull out, that is where she has her SW .357, actully there is more storage in it than the 5 even though it is a smaller car.

In the 5 when I carry , it's the glove box, and it's a FN FiveseveN with 2x 20rnd clips (either SS197 or SS195) , and one 30 full of SS195LF

If question why people carry fire arms on their person, or in their car, Try living in a city with a High crime rate. Or even better ask some one that has already been assulted or worse. Then ask the question to your self again. The police are not always around and some times take a long time for them to respond ( 30 + mininutes for home invasion in some locations).

Lets hope UK E60 owners never have to start a thread similar to this.

In 2001 there were 11940 gun homicides in the USA. In the same period in the UK there were 90 (last year it had dropped to 59). Correcting for population that would make the UK at 354 right now. Difference is we dont have a gun culture enshrined as a right in law. This seems to make it necessary for both criminal and potential victim to have a gun.

Interestingly in both countries the gun suicide level is approx 60% higher than those figures.

Perhaps BMW could dispense with the torch holder in glovebox and put a holster in there instead?

Steve, I would ask that check your facts. The fact is gun crimes have almost doubled 1997 when the UK ban on firearms when into effect. Check out this URL:
http://www.newsmax.com/inside_cover/guns_e...omo_code=38F3-1

Great Britain is not alone. Australia put into effect a gun ban in 1996 with similar results:
http://www.geoffmetcalf.com/aus.html

Thomas Jefferson said Said it best:
"What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms."

Also on your point about not having a gun culture enshrined in law - you did. The US 2nd Amendment had its source in British Common Law.

Also, it is important to note the following facts:
1. US Jurisdictions with the strongest gun control laws inevitable have higher rates of violent crimes. It seems criminals prefer unarmed victims.
2. At least 3 times more crimes are thwarted by armed law-abiding citizens that by the police. Further Firearms are used by civilians to stop or deter crimes far more than they are used by criminals to commit crimes.
3. Texas and 27 other stats have shall-issue concealed carry laws and have all seen a significant drop in the rate of homicides, robberies, and assaults.

Don't believe everything you see on TV. I can provide citations and sources for any of the above if you are interested.
