E60 Depreciation

My Ride: 530i 6 speed
I also shopped around a bit recently and the quotes I got for trade in are pathetic. The car is exactly 18 months old, has less than 8000 miles on it and no one offered me more than $39,000, which is a depreciation of ~ $20,000 in 18 months! I didn't try to haggle too much.
Two non BMW dealers flat out told me they don't want an E60 as trade in, since thay are so full of problems.........

My Ride: I have a 2004 E60. It was registered in January 2004. It's a Black Sapphire 530i SE with a few options:
- Auto-dim interior + folding exterior mirrors
- Automatic gearbox
- Bi-Xenon headlights
- Bluetooth
- Leather interior (Black-Dakota)
- Navigation system - business
- Service inclusive
- Sport steering wheel
- Star spoke 124 8Jx18"/9Jx18" + run flats
- Top tint windscreen
- BMW 6-CD autochanger
- Supagard paint treatment
- BMW carpet mats
The Porsche dealer has offered me far more in part exchange for the Cayman S! That's the irony of the whole situation. By the way, the car was ?40K new. Parkers Guide and Glass's guide (the detailed paid-for valuations) put the retail value at ?24.5K and the trade-in value at ?22.4K.

I bought my E60 from my local BMW dealer in late 2004. He reassured me that these cars are great value and as it was a 6-month old demonstrator, it had already lost around ?6K of its value so wouldn't lose money at the same rate as these cars don't depreciate too much. I bought my 04 530i used (details below, w/ only 10K on it) in December 05 and pain $40K - original invoice price was $57K. So there - $17K depreciation over 20 month period - nearly $900 per month! Hope it will depreciate slower no that I own it (I wish!) :-)

Also as I expect to drive about 30,000 miles a year over the next 3 years, the extra fuel economy of the deisel will be the icing on the cake.
The other factor for me was that in the UK, the vast majority of 'older' 5's on the road are 3.0d's and I wanted to know that mine would still be 'sellable' in 1,2 or 3 years time.

My Ride: Sapphire Black 545i with Steptronic, Nav, Sports Package, and Rear Window Shade
Due to family issues I wanted to trade in my 2005 545i for a 2005/2006 Toyota Land Cruiser. I paid $63,000 for my car and when I went to trade it in, the trade value was $46,000 according to Kelly Blue Book. That hurts!!! My cars' depreciation value is more than my payment!!! Hopefully the depreciation value will slow down, from an investors perspective this might have been a bad investment. However, getting behind the wheel of her, makes me forget all about that!!! Now if I can convince the woman to have both!!!!
