I've been doing some searching, but didn't stumble across any comprehensive maintenance thread for the 545i/550i. Is there one? If so, can someone please link me to it?

Otherwise I have a 2004 545i with 48k miles on the clock. Basically, I just want to know some items and their relative expected failure mileage so I can be proactive with replacement.

Examples would be:

-Coolant Pipe - is it safe to say around 90k-100k miles or sooner?
-Active-sway bars - I heard these leak or have issues in higher mileage, thoughts?

I just saw a thread either here or that other really popular forum about common issues with the 545. This was like yesterday and there was a list. Might want to poke around in the E60 sections. Personally i have a 550i and i am doing a major overhaul (engine out), because im crazy basically.

It seams that you are not that active on the forum otherwise There are tons of information about 545 reliability and maintenance. You have really low mileage. But all the above mention components deteriorate not only by mileage but age also as far as I have read. As for me I replace those this year at 100k

 

I think the mods should make a sticky in this section and merge the bigger maintenance thread. It's a good idea since I always see this question come up

 

This is basically what I was looking for. I know I'm not that active on the forums, but I do lurk a good amount. It would just be nice to see an aggregated thread that says, hey at around 60k miles, these failures are common. At 100k miles these failures or items should be replaced, etc. And then just links to a thread with the repair or experience. I know that would be a lot of work for someone, but I have no doubt that everyone here would be extremely grateful.

It could be model specific, but I think all E60's could be lumped into a general thread with certain engine specific or year specific items pointed out within.

 

I know of the water pump is maintenance and major oil leaks reported as well.

Maybe you should change the title to MEGA 545i maintenance thread so we can merge all maintenance posts. I hope the senior members can chime in.
