My Ride: Alpine White F11 520D SE 2013

All of a sudden the DVD drive on my 04 530i SE has decided to eat my MP3 DVD. Pressing the eject button does nothing (if on Radio or CD it switches to MP3).

I am always worried when putting a CD/DVD in a slot type drive because they have got stuck before on a number of devices - am I jinxed?

Can any kind soul suggest a way I can remove the disc without a trip to the BMW garage?!

Thanks,

Cojo

... I had that problem on an earlier BMW. The first times I could switch off the ignition, turn it on again and I would have my disc deliveried instantly (it ejected when the ignition came on), but one day it just gave up. So, I had to hand over the car to the dealer. And I was using "offical" disc and no home burn stuff.

So I got into the car after a day at work, tried eject, and hey presto it worked! Guess where that DVD is going?

Yes, I have business Sat Nav and the MP3 DVD works in as far as the songs are recognised, can be controlled through the iDrive and some of them play without error. The problem I had was that many tracks could not be read (due to the DVD or burn quality I'm hoping - still investigating).

I have the same problem with my Navigation DVD : sometimes the DVD drive don't want to read that DVD. When I press the eject button, the DVD doesn't eject and the iDrive display the message : "the media cannot be read".

The only way I found to eject the DVD is to put my car into the garage for the night and the next morning pressing the eject button rapidly after starting the car.

I guess that the car going into sleep mode at night and/or environmental changes allow the DVD drive to read the DVD without error and eject it.

I wonder what would happen if the DVD gets really damaged in the DVD drive with permanent errors

Is there somewhere a mechanical failsafe eject button like on others CD/DVD drives ?

it sometimes won't let go of my nav disc too. But after a pause (15 mins, ign off) it ejects and accepts it again for the road home. Especially in cold drive / warm car conditions it gets this problem.

I've had this happen, but in my case it was a backup copy of the NAV DVD, and I had to take it to BMW. They had to replace the whole unit. They also had to give me a new (newer version) nav dvd....
