Knowing that the cupholder is a source of much discussion, it was one of the first things I checked in the interior.
Passenger cupholder is perfect. Drivers cupholder doesn't click back in without a very hard press near the release button. Otherwise it just pops straight back out. Certainly not good enough for such a car.
It was the only "problem", and I certainly wasn't going to reject the car on that along. The question is, shall I use it a few times and see if it improves, or will it be a warranty service issue.
I've read through topics about cupholders, but not seen this specific problem mentioned. Anyone else have this issue, and if so does it go away with some use.

The cupholder issue is well documented if you do a search. They are basically useless and sooner or later the spring mechanism inside breaks. You're cupholder will feel stiff because it is new. The safest way to close them is to press firmly on the button. They do need a bit of pressure to close. My advice would be to forget they are there.
It seems that they are an option in the rest of Europe and IMHO the dash looks a lot better without them. Andy545 posted pics of the interior of his car which doesn't have them and the curve on the dash moulding looks a lot more cohesive without thoses doors and the ugly ridgelines above and below them. I tried to delete them on my new 535d but the dealer says no can do on UK cars
