Default Door panel removal and Airbag

I will be replacing the driver’s side door window control panel. I have removed the passenger door panel before; however, I did not disconnect the airbag wire.

It would be easier to replace the window control panel while all of the wires are detached so I can work with the panel.

Is it required to disconnect the battery before detaching the airbag wire?

You always disconnect the battery when dealing with airbag cables. Can you do it with the battery connected, yes, but an error code will illuminate. When taking any electrical part out on a BMW it is best to do it with the battery disconnected ALWAYS.
