If you have the right setting in the iDrive menu, the doors unlocks when the ignition is switched off.

Mine is set to lock when driving away also. How do you get it to unlock automatically when you shut the ignition off like you have it?

Bimmer Board Buds,

Why is it that the doors lock automatically after a few miles per hour, but they don't UNLOCK when you park the car, so a person doesn't have to double clutch the door handle every time you open the door? It's no real help to press the unlock button on the dash, still basically two actions needed to perform what should be one...

Am I wrong, or should there be a configurable option that allows for the doors to automatically unlock when you put the car in park?
Through iDrive I believe you can set the doors to not lock automatically. As for unlocking, that's a safety issue. Depending when/where you've stopped, you might not want the doors to automatically unlock. As an example, when stopping for a train at night in an undesirable area.

I think this is a US and Euro spec thing. Only available on the Euro spec cars. There's really no option on setting it in the iDrive, the car does this automactically. If you set the key to unlock the driver's door only in the iDrive then when you shut off your car it unlocks the driver's door only.
