I had a 325i touring loaner recently and when i slapped on cruise control in the night at a setting below my current speed (esp if it was considerably lower) id see the rear brake lights come on.

I remember thinking 'wow cool...didnt know it did that..'

I also remember thinking 'im sure mine does the same'

Yet today i put cruise control 10mph lower than my current speed when going down a hill and far from brake it just dropped the engine into idle and i began accelerating as gravity began taking its toll....

So my car doesnt brake...

Is this a new feature or something that only happens on the 3 ???

If by advanved you mean 'itll brake when the dude infront of you brakes'

thats what i thought

so i set it to cruise control on the motorway and approached traffic...
getting closer...
and closer
and closer
and closer

thne i broke because i really really didnt want to see if it worked.

There was no adaptive thing infront either.

OR is there another cruise control that i just dont have

Is that ADVANCED or ACTIVE (radar based)? Active specifies a distance from the vehicle in front and will do all that it can, including braking, to keep you at specific distance behind front vehicle. I am not familiar with ADVANCED (maybe a 3er thing - I am headed to BMWNA site now).

Went to the site. 3er cruise control is called "Dynamic Cruise Control" and it DOES add the braking as necessary to maintain speed - example given there was on downhill driving.

I have Active Cruise.

It will apply some braking to slow your car if there is an obstacle in front.... but it will not brake to a full stop.

Yes ACTIVE (sorry I said advanced) brakes for you.

If you don't have it - brake VERY VERY SOON
