I have no concern about the sound outside. It was worth the extra $ to me, would definately get it again.

the biggest problem about L7 is that its included in the E90 330i standard, so we know that BMW is totally ripping us off on this option. Other than that, its the only 'hi' end option for sound in the E60 so it will have do, i just hate that i know im gonna pay $1800 for a CD changer that I dont need, i'd just rather an iPod iDrive integration already

Not here in Germany It is still an option item on the 330i

L7 is the BEST stock sound system.
You can't make comments on it, if you didn't listened to it yourself.
I have the same Bass and Treble adjustments as you, PLUS the equalizer. No problem with Bass/Treble or the L7 modes.
I've tried standard, Hi-Fi and L7, and L7 is waaaay better than the others.

Ive had the pleasure of my L7 for 2 weeks , and I love the sound quality. As it comes from the dealer network (who seem to think that bass is what its about) it is set up IMO far to bass/boomy. With a little time however you can have it set up to give a great "suround" soundstage. My fav setting is theatre, if the radio is on it ties the dialogue to the centre front speaker, and then when music is played it it is spread across the entire speaker range. My MP3 playback via the single slot CD is really great, I have tried to keep to a minimum of 192kb/s however some of the tracks are 128k and all sound really good. Good range of volume available (enough to give tinitus if that s what you like) it hasnt disapointed me in any way.

Had the HK hifi in my 330 E46 and this kicks its butt!!

enjoy your L7's guys I am...

I suggest you try switching over to the Concert setting.

It widens the front soundstage significantly.... removing the overly strong center channel bias. Far more musical sounding.

Theater is fine for talk radio. Concert more appropriate for music.

Anyone care to share their equaliser settings? It'd be great if we can try each other's settings to find out which is more outstanding.
For me, I am using the settings recommended in one of those E65 L7 threads. Will try and record it down and post tomorrow.

I think the L7 is great. However, the stock Bose system in my Avalanche is as clear as the L7. The L7 has more options as far as customizing the sound, but I'm not sure the extra money is worth the option. That being said, I too would be a little skeptical about having a 20 year old kid working at the local Tweeter who is going to junior college cut into my new Bimmer and running wires.

:'( Guys....I don't know what the hoopla is all about, I find the standard radio in my e60 good enough, I particully don't find blowing my eardrums out a pleasant thing......but my friends...its all up to yourselfs what you want. Don't forget the old chineese proverb ( ) different strokes for different folks.
