Default AC setting

Guys
Are all your E60's AC set to turn on automatically when the car is started? I find that annoying, wonder if there's a way to set the default to AC off.
Also, does anyone know what the setting AC Intensity (hi/mid/lo) really means? I tried all 3 settings and there seems to be no noticeable difference....

I'm pretty sure that the "intense/medium/soft" climate settings control the volume of air or how agressive the system reacts to changes in temperature settings.
The way I understand it, normally (setting on medium) if a person bumps the desired temperature setting up or down a few degrees, the system will respond with with a "normal" amount of air until the desired temperature is reached. If the same thing happens while the setting is on intense, the system will respond with a larger volume of air to reach the desired temperature faster but with increased noise being the trade-off. Obviously, the soft setting does the opposite with the end result being quieter with a slower response to changes.

Could you please tell me the diff between advance and (non-advance) normal A/c. IMHO, I still prefer the digital version found in my retired E39 to those in the E60 - I mean, the knobs look so toy-like and the plastic looked cheap.

The advanced AC has independent control of driver and passenger side, along with automatic control of the air supply.
(i like the advanced a/c knobs better than the standard ones. The silver rings around the buttons look much better)

As for (hi/mi/lo), in addition to what Rudy stated, it also refers to the quantity of air blown trough the front vents. for e.g. on low(soft) setting a small quantity of air comes from the front (dash) vents and more air comes from the foot vents. You can see how the air distribution changes after each modification in hi/mi/lo.

I've been using high lately since we've been in some pretty warm, humid times. It's been working great. Normal seems to work under "normal" circumstances but during these intense temperatures, I prefer the "high" setting to get things cooled down a bit quicker.

Ventilated seats is one option that I wish I could've ordered here in the US.
My father has them on his car and I love them -- winter and summer. I've actually put both the seat heaters and ventilators on simultaneously. It works quite well that way (at least for me).
I guess I'll have to wait until my next 5er (around 2007) for that option!
