Do I have Active Stearing on my 530i?
OK, so now I'm thinking that I DON'T have it. Hmmmm, now I'm really curious since everyone is telling me that 04 530i with Sports Pack came with activer steering..
let me look into it more.
That spec should have AS. Perhaps you've just adapted to it without realising...
There's no easy way to tell (unless it fails!) A dealer could probably confirm...
IMHO is pretty easy to tell - I've got 2 E60's one with AS the other without - the one without AS requires me to turn 2 revolutions to execute a 90 deg turn out of my carpark
also without AS the steering is HEAVIER.

BTW-What does IMHO stand for?
let me look into it more.

Hmmm,,, really? I odn't think I have it but I coul dbe wrong? Is there a faster way to find out if I have AS? I think I do have to turn it several times into a parking spot....it's definitley NOT a half turn.

there were lots of criticism from the motoring press about the setup with sports pack that BMW decided to make it an option to add AS
they were trying to get back to the old days where steering feel is a key USP on Bimmers

Try making sharp turns while going 10mph - it should turn prettyquick without much effort.
I too have a 2004 530i and it comes standard with US spec sports package.

2004530i, Yes you definitely have Active Steering in your ride.. and i don't see why you should disactivate it? You don't like it?

NO..NO..NO. I don't want to deactivate it...just want to see if I have it. Based on how people tell me how AS feels, I'm not so sure I have it still. I might have to go to my local bmw dealer and test drive a 530 with AC.
Again, I HOPE I do have it and have been driving the care for a couple weeks now. It doesn't feel abnormal from my previous 02 X5. Please read my previous posts about turning ratio....again, I'm NOT confident I have it.
I'm gonna call some BMW dealers with my VIN NO., maybe this will help.
My car was built 05/04..maybe they included AC after that date?

My Ride: 2005 545i Sport, Premium, Logic 7, Jet Black, Black Leather, M-Aero Kit, 15% (very dark) Tint, Eichbach Lowering Springs, Red Brake Calipers, Radenergie R-10's, Michelin PilotSport2 in 245/35/20 and 285/30/20, Rolled Fenders, and a nifty Graco Baby Car Seat.
Next Up: Xenon fogs, Eisemann Exhaust, iPod Interface, Comfort Seats.
For 2005 Models: AS is standard on a 2005 545Sport, and is an option on 2005 525 and 530 models.
If you have it, there should be a yellow icon on your dashboard/control panel (between the speedometer and tachometer) that will light up when you first turn the car on.
If you are still unsure: call your BMW service advisor and give him your VIN #; that will be the most sure way to know.
