show off.. im typing this as i sit in the stealership.. brakes still squeaking and frankly an embarrassment, back seat just folded foward and wont stay back(must be all the bodies i hide in it) and sunroof seal is popping up a little.. and no loaner
It is obvious the stealership doesn't know who they are dealing with, Mel! Hope you get everything fixed. Let us know how they stopped the brake squeal. Once it starts it seem like it is very difficult to completely cure. A terrible disease to contract and at such a young age...

That's why I plan to start 6qt next time. I want to see the point that I got less one green bar in the level display. So in real world when I got warning, I know how much oil I missed.

That's assuming the system is functioning properly...I'm all for technological progress, etc. [see my rants about SMG] but a simple dipstick is pretty darn trustworty and not prone to failure. It seems like a no-brainer for BMW to put them back.

Sometimes, there isn't a better mousetrap...

You have found the electronic oil level sensor 'to be quite accurate' .......really? how can you tell, what are you using as a comparison.

MiamiPhil makes one of the best arguments on this topic, and that is without the dipstick you have no reference point in which to accurately read oil levels or to compare readings. Nice catch Phil.

I do not have a dipstick in my LCI. Two big disappointments with this car for me are the lack of simple but important items like the dipstick and a temperature gauge. I guess I shouldn't worry so much about the dipstick issue because I don't usually keep cars long enough for the warranties to expire, but still, I don't trust sensors alone. I can't count the number of times I've had cars and trucks serviced for cheap sensors that have gone bad.

Looks like a good service but it chaps me to hear what he said about your brakes. There is absolutely no reason why your brakes must make a noice. Period.

If those are the two "big disappointments" you have with your car...I'd say BMW has done a mighty fine job, seeing as how they have us quibbling over inconsequential details instead of complaining about major items.
