Some member posted that the dipstick is returning. We now have Members in possession of shinny new 09s. Is the dipstick back? If it is back I wonder if it can be retrofitted on older models?

A very knowledgeable insider told me that the dipstick in the new engines will be back. He also said that the main reason why the dipstick has been absent is because with the magnesium engines BMW did not want to take any chance at all with water entering the system and since the new engines will be all-aluminum again, there will be no such concern. I asked him about the RFT and he said that (at least in the USA) those are here to stay due to government mandate. ALL cars in the US will have RFT as a result of legislation. BMW just jumped ahead of everybody so that by the time everybody else begins, BMW will be ahead of the learning curve.
