Out of curiosity I visited the BMW site, took a basic 550i (€84,999.39 w/o options, = $121,000) and configured it with most of the options available. It brings the total price to €131,665.88, which is $188.000 !!). Ouch...

Coming back to the original question: It means that in Holland when you buy a 550i, you have to pay extra for some things I would expect to be standard on such a car:
- Electrochrome interiour mirror
- Cupholders
- PDC
- Nav
- Decent speakers
- Xenon

 

I made it 44,000 Euro - that includes additional extras not in my car: Heated seats & upgraded aircon in the German specification (if you choose Advantage Package). My German is far from perfect, but I shouldn't be too far away on the options.

In the UK, metallic paint is an extra too.

So really, the German option looks a wee bit better.

You don't even wanna know how "empty" the cars is in Denmark due to our high tax level on the cars (180 % + VAT)

But - we do get discount from the manufactors, so the cars in Denmark are cheaper than the cars in Germany and Sweden, before we add on the taxes here.

I'm in the car business in Denmark, and we are dealing with a lot of customers from EU each week...

So the cars are built in Germany, transported to Denmark, and some of them are going back to Germany again - strange world !

 

These thread keep on coming up every now and then and I always feel people don't compare like for like. e.g. in the UK what is standard spec? Is it the normal, the SE or the M. The normal isn't even available any more. Then we have the differences with the engines etc. What we should do is start off by choosing an engine that is available across the globe and list out the price its at before you put anything on it.

Example : a 550i SE Saloon 367bhp is ?48,305 before anything is added. The same car is $59,275 in the US but with 360bhp.
Choose the 550i as an example because its the only car I found available between the US and UK.
