Having been through this process due to the July/Aug DME recall, if you ordered a 2005 you I should either refuse the 2004 or take it at a few $$ over invoice or wait for a 2005. I am currently have a 2005 stuck at the VPC due to either bluetooth or emissions issues. My CA told me all BMW cars with V8 engines including 6 and 7 series will not be released from the VPC until 10/8 due to emissions certification. THis may be BS.

I would refuse if the car was an 04.

If you're spending that much money, then make sure there is no regret.

If the dealer made the mistake, tell them to make it up somehow.

I would wait if I were you.

Good luck

welcome aboard, falcon95614 ! i think your dealer made a big mistake if they ordered the '04. but did you sign anything or have you paid for it already? if you did, they'll give you hard time if you insist to get a '05 just because you have to responsible for that as well. you suppose to read through everything before you sign. they can tell you they just placed the order for the model year that you want if everything is on the contract. check your contract or anything that you signed and good luck .

Your dealer is trying to screw you.

Ordered a 05. Dealer now telling me it is a 2004. I suspect when it was made (late August) that the dealer is in error. I can refuse the car if indeed it is a 2004 that is not the issue. The core issue is I wanted a 2005 (configured the way I wanted) and now I may have to start the process over.

I don't think that you could refuse a car that is clearly labeled as a 2004 on the sales invoice. If you signed the paperwork for a 2004 you get a 2004. Well you COULD refuse it but you would lose your deposit.

I would refuse the car. It makes no sense to get an 04 right now. Tell the dealer that they need to fix their mistake. Good luck.

He ordered a MY05, so he will not lose the deposit if he refuses the car, but he would have to wait for the new one........

Ordered a car back in July. Requested a 2005, but it looks like it will be a 2004. The car will be here next week (USA). I have looked on the BMW NA site and can not see any differences between a 2004 and 2005. Are there any?

There is one big difference - resale value. If you take delivery of a 2004 now, and sell it 4 years from now, you will lose several thousand dollars more than if you take a 2005. I can't give you an exact figure, but for a ballpark, go to the kelly blue book site:

http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/ke.kb.s...&&usedCars;slp

and check out how much the resale value changes with just a change in the model year - it's quite significant.

It also depends on how long you will keep it. the value difference in 6 or 8 years is smaller and more dependant on mileage. We pay excise tax in Massachusetts, so the year older is a plus for me, and I plan on keeping the car for a long time.
