My Ride: '05 545i - scheduled for ED pickup in Munich on 7/22!
Is there a way to turn off the automatic countersteer? Is it off if DSC and DTC are off?

It's always on, even if you turn DSC off. I believe AS countersteers up to 5 degrees and intervenes faster than DSC.
I have a wide 90 degree turn on my way to work with a bus stop with spectators and I always turn DSC off and do a 2nd gear power slide/drift there. I've never felt the active steer countersteer there but I "think" it may have done this on a tight motorway access loop.

This info dates back to '04, so not sure if anything has changed.
At speeds less than 45 mph, AS provides a 44 percent quicker steering ratio which is supposed to improve agility.
At speeds above 75 mph, AS provides an 11 percent slower steering ratio, which is supposed to enhance stability.
Transitions between the 10:1 and 20:1 steering ratio extremes are supposed to be smooth enough so that the driver doesn't notice. With no contribution from the electric motor of AS, the nominal steering ratio is 18:1.
