I did ED this fall and dropped off my 545 on 10/22. I had to track my car myself by contacting E.H. Harms in Germany and Ted Rausch in Long Beach since BMW is clueless in this area. It got released from customs/ag at Port Hueneme and available for the VPC on 12/7. I got word late last week from the SA that it would arrive at the dealer here in San Diego County on 12/21. It didn't show up and the SA called today to tell me it was rescheduled for delivery to me 12/25, Christmas, a holiday. I called BMW N.A. and the customer service guy said they have no control of it to talk to my Sales Manager. My Sales Manager said the dates are estimates and it could show up any time before after 12/25. Very frustrating!

Has anyone else been "bumped" like this recently? How long did it take from drop-off to return? I am almost at 9 weeks now and my prospects don't look real good.

Don't get frustrated. Just think of the great fun you will have. Mine took over 10 weeks.

It appears you had ordered yours, so you had to get in line, get it built, and shipped. Mine was done and I'd already driven it a couple weeks when I dropped it off on 10/22. Nine weeks seems a bit long when the car is already built.

My ED delivery date was 17 days after Release from Customs & Ag (one day earlier than my SA's expected delivery date).

Good Luck!

I recently went through Port Hueneme on my 545i also. It arrived on 11/15. My originally scheduled pickup day was 11/20. Unfortunately I wasn't able to actually take delivery until 12/3. In the mean time a whole bunch of 530s from my ship and ships AFTER mine came rolling through. The reason I was given is that often 545's take longer to get through VPC because of extra electronic controls on the 8-cyl Valvetronic. In my case they had to reprogram the computer that manages this function. Obviously the delay made me nervous - am I going to get a "crippled" car in some way? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I simply weathered the delay, and am enjoying the heck out of the car. No problems - just unbelievable driving pleasure.

They reprogrammed the DME to meet emission standards. They are doing to to all V8s as they come into the shop. They wanted to do mine today, but I want to wait until a newer SW version is out.

All of the V8s need to stay longer for reprograming??? That's pretty bad for me....
