The "debadge" more popular in Europe-americans are full of t

I was wondering after I read that it was a no-cost option, why tons of europeans do this and have no badge whereas I have never seen a debadged car here in the US unless the person did it afterwards and even then hardly ever see them. And its hard to argue that they do not look way better and cleaner without the badge so is it just the arrogance of americans in wanting everyone to know what they drive?

To be honest, 90 percent of girls I know and have met completely look at something like a badge-and do not know enough about the cars to recognize one model from another-so if your reason is to pick up chicks then I see.

But for me I could care less if people know what I drive-I just like the cleanest, nicest looking car on the road (or atleast try to be) and take pride in always having my car in tip top shape.

Just dont get it about america-basically why dont we debadge?
Debadging is not more popular in Europe. Many cars are ordered with a badge-delete option, which means there is no badge in the first place. Hence it was never deleted.

Reasons for ordering badge delete include not wishing to advertise how much petrol your car is consuming to your neighbors.

A lot of 520i and 520d 's run de-badged, perhaps for different reasons
Yep.

Here in Germany it could happen that your neighbours laugh, because you bought a 5er and can't afford a bigger engine. And people who hate you for driving the fiver, because they can't afford one, will do damages to your car, because they know it hurts you. Putting the damage to a 545 or 550 they know that the driver just gets it painted and doesn't really care about the cost (in their thinking).

Also, as JSpira said, the environment thingie...

A lot of reasons, but mainly envy.

I can?t answer for the US owners out there, but I have ordered all my BMW?s debadged.
For two reasons:
1. The rear looks IMO much cleaner..

2. I don?t feel the need to tell anybody which engine I?m driving, I know and that?s enough for me... Unfortunately, in Sweden (and other Euro countries I?m sure), driving an expensive car/boat/living in a nice big house is very annoying to quite a few people. They are unable to be happy for other people?s situation, it?s really very sad.
I could rant like crazy about this but nuff said for now!

Cheers

My car arrived debadged and for a while I was considering re-badging it. However considering that in many parts of the UK people hate you if you are doing "too well"( echoing what Krill said about Sweden), I have decided not to bother.

I'm beginning to prefer the clean look now, despite the fact that if I see another 5er I always check the badge, and hate it when there is none there!

As stated before there are generally 2 main reasons people debadge cars

1)They have a small engine and wish people to think otherwise.
2)They have a powerful engine and wish to avoid unwanted attention.

The phenomenon of people keying/scratching nice cars out jealousy is a real problem over here, but from what I can gather it's something that rarely happens in the states. If this is right then I imagine it's probably due to Americans being aspirational and having more of an appreciation of success than Europeans.

Can anybody confirm this? Do cars ever get "keyed" in the US?

Yes! I can confirm this as the scratch on my trunk, just under the 545i badge on the trunk, can attest to the fact that it is ALSO an American phenomenon. I am, however, considering going "debadged" after I have it repainted, just because I've always prefered no badges...pure design as the car designer originally intended.

idebadged mine the first week. As for cars getting keyed I had mine keyed a few days after I had it done by the body shop from a hit and run on the same quarter panel!

Also in Germany people is envious ?

I think the main reason to debadge is that in EU many people have a poor engine .

I have the badge but I'm thinking to remove it! But not for envy .

Ya randomly AOL news had an article about that the other day how more and more americans are slapping M badges on, AMG badges on V12 instead of their V8 badges on-pathetic!! I mean anyone who knows anything about their cars, other Bimmer or Merc drivers are going to spot a fake right away and it is just laughable. Most car enthusiasts know the basics of the higher end cars and will spot the fake. So who does that leave left to trick? Odds are if someone is falling for the badge trick, they are unlikely going to even comprehend what the badge means. I am willing to bet most americans on the streets do not realize an M badge is any better than a 550 or whatever-maybe I am wrong but seems like a stupid move.

Reminds me of those V6 mustangs I see around town, ALWAYS driven by a latino with a tin can exhaust and rims an a GT sticker somewhere on the car trying to be a V8 GT mustang-cracks me up and I dont know the first thing about the new stangs except I can spot a fake when I see one! Crazy

Now even slapping a 550 badge on a 530 for example-most bmw owners, atleast 5 series owners would spot the fake due to the rims being different-ya just cant cheat your way into a bigger better car! There is ALWAYS something bigger and better. Ferrari owners likely look at a 5 series like a POS compared to their car but that is life!

First off! Get your head out of your ass! What city do you live in that YOU ''SEE LATINOS DRIVING V6 MUSTANGS WITH TIN CAN EXHAUST, RIMS & GT STICKERS'' Sounds like a racist remark to me I don't see any pics of your car anywhere, maybe you still have a stock BMW you're embarrassed about

What the hell is to you why the Europeans debadge and Americans don't Worry about yourself not others. Infact, if anyone wants to do anything to there car, who are you to make fun of them. I'd really like to see your car

You want to see what kind of mustang I drive

Thanks for responding to this ignorant remark... I was getting angrier and angrier until I read your post. To answer both issues, I drive a 2004 525i debadged. Why did I debadge? Because it looks smooth plus no one knows I'm only pushing 184 hp. Second, regarding the Mustang thing. I drive my girl's car to work two or three days a week. It's a 2001 V6 (193 hp). And no, there is a tin can exhaust on the back or a replica gt badge taped on somewhere.
Let me guess, this dude is from the middle of the country and probably hates anything not white....

By the way, JRV, what type of Mustang do you drive?

I think the point is envy. You dont envy yourself for having a nice car, its others. Thats why ppl debadge their cars, to avoid other ppl's envy. However you might mean vanity but its difficult to extract the sense & meaning from your tirade.

Dude I live in Phoenix where the mexican population is nearly half of the population and for some reason the lation community likes to trick out cars-but especially stangs in a typical way-
-those super small wide bling bling rims (like13inches )
-really shiny chrome tip
-lowered-
-The GT sign is not specific to them but happens.

I can honestly say I have NEVER seen a non-latino driving a stang that is lowered with those mini rims. Just like you see mostly blacks driving cars with hydralics that bounce bounce-its not racism, its just a cultural preference that is considered "cool"

That is like saying I am racist for generalizing that blacks mostly like rap music-its not racist its just what happens to be a cultural preference. And for somer eason those tricked out tiny rims and tin can chrome exhaust on a v6 stang happens to be a latino thing here in Phoenix.
