Dealership service info
Recently purchased a 2008 535xi from a non-BMW dealership. From the carfax, I learned which BMW dealership the majority of service was done at. In attempting to aquire history from said dealership, i was bluntly told it would not happen on account of confidentiality rules. Said I wasnt interested in anyone's personal information, simply like to keep detailed service records on my vehicles. Anyone know of an "end around"?

Unfortunately, no. If you had purchased from that dealer or had a good relationship with them, they might be inclined to provide you with more details. They are required to provide details of any recall work done. The Carfax should have the major work performed there anyway.

Yes, the carfax did list some things, (water pump replaced @ 40,000 miles, a tire here & there, etc.). First time I called , I spoke w/ a woman in service who was friendly. Based off the vin., she said the car had a lot done, took my email & said she would send it. Waited a week & never got it. Called back & got a manager dude who put the kabash on it.

They justify it as a privacy issue. You can try being friendly with a service advisor, and ask him to at least read the repairs to you. Then pay attention to the major ones, such as replaced injectors, water pump, oil pan gasket, etc.

Thanks for the replys. When I replaced the valve cover gasket, didn't pull the injectors, but thought I read what looked like 7 or 8 , maybe 9 (sorry, I can't remember). Car runs great, a real pleasure. Did the ofh & oc gaskets. Had a local tranny place do the pan/gasket & fluid (kit from fcpeuro). I highly recommend the Bluetooth blue driver obd scanner for $99. It told me the tpms problem that wouldn't go away was the antenna under the car (driver seat). Good luck to everyone on preventive maintenance w/ their car, these are awesome machines!
