Unfortunately 500 gained 110 libs compared to 545. The correct weight is 3,925. That may partially explain why 550 is/feels slower than 545.

We need more meter guys in 550i's, and all doing passes need to make weather and altitude adjustments for comparability with the rest of us that are.

I'm hoping that there will be opportunities to do some launches this coming Saturday at the Socal Meet. There should be quite a few 550s there.

Hi all.Made 1/4 run this morning with my GT2 timer. Results as follows:
good stuff
0-60............5.17
1/4 time.......13.56
1/4 speed.....104.20
weather conditions
temp.......57F
dew point..57F
bar...........29.94
altitude.....400'
It appears that as the weather gets cooler here my times are getting better.I don't know what the corrected figures would be,maybe Znod can crunch.

Corrected ET 13.474 (sec)
Corrected Trap Speed 104.879 (mph)
Corrected 0 -60 5.064 (sec)--My excellent estimate
Good one g-man. The weather helped you a tad. I looked back; it is one of your 5 best on an adjusted basis. So, give me a few days and I will substitute it in and change your average here. I still plan to get a few more in before the good old hot weather is gone.

According to BMW the 550 is indeed heavier, but the weight gain over the 545 was just 66 lbs (07 550 vs 05 545, using weight per the 07 and 05 brochures). I'd expect that 66lbs should be more than offset by 35 more HP and the additional 30lb/ft or so of torque?

I'm betting you can. Less gas. No spare. cold weather... under 5 for sure. I bet my IS can get under 5 too... I had too much gas in the car this time and still have the spare and all carpet in the car including the tunk carpet matt... thats heavy.

My preference is the Tesla Pro RR (with the download cable and software). It is either about $300 or about $400--can't remember which. You can get the non-download model for about $100 less, but you won't get nearly as much info. Still, if you are just interested in basic data, then it is plenty good. Happy testung.

How did you get 66 lbs difference? I've just checked my 2005 book (545 is 3,814 lbs) and 2007 (550 is 3,924) for cars with auto tranny. The difference is 110 lbs or 50 kilos. Are you taking into account your somewhat lighter non-RFT tires? Add softer suspension and reprogrammed engine/tranny and 550 can very well be slower than 545.
The only test for the 550 so far has been a dead 5.0, the lowest tests for the 545 in any of the mainstream auto press was 5.2 to 5.3. No car mag got 545 results close to the times reported here with g-meters by 545 drivers. By the same logic, stick a g-meter in 550 and with similar amounts of practice it's reasonable to assume that in time you will beat the magazine numbers as the 545 owners seem to have done.
