The 08 550i has the Premium package as standard equipment therefore you do have electro-chromatic mirror glass. There won't be any problems using the M5 electro-chromatic mirror glasses with your 550i.

Looking at the LCI broshure, the listing for this feature (in the listing of options section toward the rear) is a little ambiguous... it indicates that "automatic-dimming interior rear-view mirros and power-folding exterior side-view mirrors" as standard on the 550i. But it never explicitly states that the side-view mirrors are auto-dimming. In the body of the broshure it says that for the 528 and 535 premium package the side-view mirrors are auto-dimming. And under the Premium Package listing at the back, it indicates that all the features of the Premium Package are standard on the 550i.
So that is why I was a little uncertain.
