You won't believe this "

Arrugh .. I had a guy go crazy cleaning my passenger seat and of course after I drive off
my lights started firing up and dings all over the place.

Finally I get the mother of all lights ... 'Passenger Restraint Light ON!'

So I go on line to fine some easy shit I can do.... What the HELL I found is this brain surgery and 'Total Recall' of some cars... Come on MAN!!!

Then I get to this one 'Tech Answer' and he say's this:

NO BULLSHIT

Clean the hell out of your seat with 'Saddle Soap' then apply a Conditioner .... "WHAT!!!

Yup so I go out and get some Saddle Soap $9.50 (ouch) Conditioner ($8.50)

It 'FREAKIN WORKED !!!!

He says that the sensor stick to the leather when either to damp or wet (whichever) but say the Saddle soap cleans the leather and the conditioner shrinks it taunt ... which picks it off the sensor ......

It worked for me today. Too funny!

I've heard that before. It could be a fluke. The passenger restraint malfunction error could be intermittent.

Just code it out using NCS Expert and editing the abg module

Hi
I suppose you could use program or ISTA P but i don't know those how to use them, for me NCS Expert is easier,
NCS Expert
read the ABG trace file
Open with NCS Dummy
Find line for Passenger occupancy sensor and or OC3 Sensor
Set to Nicht_Active
Code ABG module with your modified ABG trace file in NCS Expert

Job done

I did this myself last night really simple when you know how, i also coded out the drivers seatbelt pre-tensioner as i have fitted fully electric sports seats and they don't come with a pre-tensioner unlike the standard SE seats.

Hi thanks for so much info. I am thinking of buying an 06 530xi which has the same error 'passenger restraint' also a couple of headlamp errors. Its a company car so its been well maintained. I can get it at a decent price but dont want to spend $$$ to get the errors diagnosed and repaired. Just hoping for advise on whether i should buy it. Other than the errors it is so much fun to drive.
Thanks, Jack.

The best advice that can be provided is to have a prepurchase inspection performed by a reputable independent BMW shop. They will go over the car and identify problems and provide a estimate to correct said problems and give you a overall condition of the car. The e60 can look really good well beyond their mechanical condition.

I have appt for a pre purchase inspection $200. I had another inspection for $400 but they will not estimate error codes as qoute ' it could be something else causing the fault ' or we will need to troubleshoot and can't estimate.
That's worrying as repair bills can quickly add up.
The restraint malfunction and other errors may get too expensive to make it worth buying.
