There are way too many options Janapense luxury car come standard but not on European cars.
Ex. Automatic transmission, heated seats, HUD, leather, power seats, split-fold down rear seats and many more.

Why are we still buy the Bimmers: Fun factor!!!!

Not just BMW--Mercedes also. Keyless go (like comfort access) was ~$1,000 on my E55.

My Ride: Arrived 3 June 2005: 2005 545i - Orient Blue, Black interior, Sport, Steptronic, Cold Weather, NAV, Sirius, Logic7, Comfort Seats, Sunshades. What a glorious ride!

I agree that the "comfort access" -- standard on the Lexus GS and Acura RL -- is in no way worth the extra $$. The fact we have a true electronic start on our e60 is where the real value lies, IMO. Pushbuttons rather than turning keys -- that's fluff.

Just browsing the 550i brochure and was curious about these features.

Keyless entry with multi-function remote control is standard
Comfort Access keyless entry with multi-function remote control is optional

Does the start/stop ignition button come standard or is it a feature of the comfort access?

Where did you get a brochure? My sales rep. still knows nothing about the 550. They know its coming, but have no details. I can't even order one yet because it has not hit their system (computer) yet. I am in a small town, but damn, what is the deal?

Comfort Access lets you open the driver's door and start the car by pushing a button just by carrying a potentially carcinogenic key fob in your pocket.

I would have preferred the start/stop button on the shifter (like on the Benz)

Video of the process located here. Except on the bimmers the button is located between the steering wheel and I-drive screen:

They could have put the button in/on the i-drive controller....always a step behind...

I had the start/stop button on the shifter of my E55--the only problem is when you go to shift from park to drive or reverse, you end up pressing the button on the top first--out of years and years of needing to do that to change gears...and you turn the car off!! I did it so many times.

Same problem if they put the button on the iDrive controller since you need to press it a lot.

Friend of mine has an E90 3 series, he is bugged by the starter button, he says that it is a step backward. However inconjunction with the comfort access its get in and press and then it starts to make sense.

The 1 series has comfort access , this function being advertised on TV in the UK at the moment.
