I HAVE A 2005 530I SPORT 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANS.
BETWEEN 4000 - 5000 RPM IN EITHER 2ND OR 3RD GEAR I FEEL WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE CLUTCH SLIPPING.
AFTER 5000 RPM, SLIPPAGE STOPS AND CAR ACCELERATES NORMAL.???????????????

ANY IDEAS

What happens if you floor the accelerator in say 4th or 5th gear while at around 2,000 or 3,000 rpms? Does it slip a bit?

From your description, it sounds like a slipping clutch. In my experiences, a worn clutch can slip under various conditions -- sometimes worse than other times...

Also, I'm thinking this could possibly be a case of the earlier manual 3.0L cars having that "hitch" in acceleration around that RPM. It has been a while since the forum had any traffic on this issue, so the OP might have to dig a bit, but this was a known peculiarity that some people had service work done to correct.

I have heard of this before. What has happened is that your Caps Lock key from your computer keyboard has fallen off and got stuck in the transmission.

I would think if the clutch was slipping, you would see/feel a abnormal change in RPM (i.e. your RPM's would increase, then slightly drop when it started to catch). Is that what you are experiencing?

I was having a problem with my map sensor that was causing irregular engine operation, which at first I thought I was having a clutch problem as my shifts where screwed up.

how many miles? I have 42000 on mine driven hard, but not abused and I have not problems other than the slip when the traction control kicks in and the annoying clutch delay valve are you sure its not the traction control?
