My car is back, after almost a week for service. Oil + filters change and some small repairs, (noise from the steering wheel, noise from the back, broken lock of glove compartment, etc.) and, after a long, long waiting, s/w update to CIP 20 with MP3 capability.
And guess what? it works and works just fine. I?m so happy to get finally such a nice to have feature.
The noise from the back is still there, but the dealer has identified the origin of such noise. It is something to do with the back safety belts. As soon as the dealer gets the new items, already ordered, he calls me to do the replacement.
I believe I was very lucky when I decided to buy my car at this Dealer, they are just great.
Well back to the important thing, MP3? I?ve burned a CD for testing and decided to organize it in the following way:
- Root
- Artist/Band
- Album (Actually the CD)
- Music (Each song of the CD)
It works exactly that way, it?s superb!
Following some (bad) pictures I?ve taken last night to show you how it looks like.

As others have noted, CIP 20.00.00 does not enable MP3 playback on ALL Pro Nav E60s. Very likely, it enables MP3 on vehicles with a new enough central computer to handle it. Others with Pro Nav have gotten CIP 20.00.00 and MP3 playback in the single CD slot has been confirmed to not be enabled. (BMW also doesn't list MP3 playback among CIP 20.00.00's features.)

Please post your vehicle build date, so we can begin correlating data.

All you have to do is click the "Choose File" button under "File Attachments". That will let you select the picture on your computer. Then click "Add This Attachment". That's it. Repeat for additional pictures. You can actually just edit your first message to add them by clicking "Edit" -> "Full Edit", or you can just post them in another reply.

Thans Das but, it seems not working! Probably the pictures I've taken are too havy for the system. Are there any limitations in terms of size of the pictures?

Yes there are. I cannot remember what they are right off, but if you drop the size to 1024x800 pixels or under 480kb they should work.

Spent some time researching this on e90post.com

They have the same issue - no mp3 playback with Nav prior to 9/05 production

BUT.. in Europe there have been people with pre Sept production with Nav that have gotten mp3 playback

They needed 2 updates - CIP 20 and another separate software update - no changing the CCC

Maybe they are trying it in Europe before the US gets it

fpinto - when was your car produced?

A fellow on E90post.net in Austrailia mentioned this PuMA Measure 4283908-03 as additional software over and above the CIP 20.xx upgrade. So far the US E90s were kind of in the same boat and we don't even know if this will apply to E60 and E63 models.

Dgjk, my car was produced in July/04 and I'm quite sure they only updated my car with CIP 20.00.00. Just before Christmas the Dealer told me that they should receive CIP 20 before de end of the year, as promised by BMW, and that version had MP3 capability included. So it was.

Could you call the dealer and verify that the only thing done was the CIP?

Do not know why I am so concerned - mo3 works in my car

Guess I just care about my fellow BMW owners
