My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
.....it still looked brand new. I mean, not even a sign of one little tear or wear; nothing. Even the SA admitted that it was remarkable and asked the mechanic for his opinion why the belt looks so good. The mechanic said that these are the new, improved belts and can easily reach 100K.
Just wanted to report on it. Looking back, I feel like a fool for replacing a perfectly fine drive belt. Even though the consensus among the different forums seems to be to replace the drive belt at 60 K, I would argue for 75K or even 80K or more.
Has anybody else discovered this?

are you referring to the accessories belt? the big one that goes around the water pump and those other goodies stuff. If you are, then I definitely agree with you about replacing it around the 70k mark or higher. I replaced my water pump, tensioner and was going to replace the belt also at 70K, turned out it was in great condition no crack whatsoever so decided to hold off until later on. Well that and I was too lazy to make a trip to the dealer to buy it.

what turbo called it, serpentine belt. Keep forgetting what's the name of that belt. BTW, Turbo was the one who guided me on how to replace my water pump so just in case later on you need to replace it, pm him. No need to bring it in and get rape from behind by the dealer.

usually serpentine belts dont break, unless they are really old and with a ton of miles. so as long as you change it at least every 100k, you should never have to worry about it.
you might have to worry about the ac belt, since its tiny, but even if that breaks, you wont be stranded.
