Wow I just found out a new trick today (new to me), how to have the car running without the key inserted. First get in your car, insert the key and turn on the car, then turn off the car and take the key out, then press your brake (without the key inserted) and press start, and boom, the car would start and stay running without the key inserted, pretty cool trick I say.

Recently gone, but never forgotten:
2005 Ford Mustang GT (hence the name)
Torch Red/Crimson

Brilliant Black/Light Taupe/Dark Slate
Autostick and goo-gobs of neat features that I will sorely miss
But is it worth a new starter motor?

I use it in situations like: When I want to let my car running when it's very cold and I go to a shop for a couple of minutes. The good thing is that you can just lock your car while it's running.

My Ride: 2004 530i
premium package/active steering/auto sunshade/tiag/black dakota leather/logic 7
35% tint all around
19' DPE GT7
this would be very useful for those in cold climates that like to warm there car in the morning before driving and don't want to leave the key in. Too bad I don't have push start.

This doesn't harm your starter motor. It's just a trick to allow you to drive the car without the key inserted.

I suppose that's a neat little trick. I tested that idea with a previous car of mine. I left the engine running (at home), got out of the car, locked the doors with the switch, and closed the door. I tried to unlock the doors with the fob and they wouldn't unlock. Had to use the second key. Whew! Imagine if I'd tried that while out somewhere!

My concern with the starter motor is with the regular double starts in short succession.

put the ignition key in the slot
press the start engine button without pressing the brake pedal so the electronics turn on but not the engine.
take the key out
press the brake pedal and press the start engine button - the engine starts with no key
that way, we save on starte motors
one issue though, if you stop the engine without the key in the ignition, it doesnt save any of your settings on the key.
hope this helps, cheers.
