i've only made it to 145mph but I had PS2s with over 1K miles on them and were running for over 1 hour at lower speeds before we hit top speed

I would be more concerned at the sensibility of doing that speed with others on the road rather than harming the car.

Next time, take it to 155 and step on the brakes and let us know what that feels like - i bet thats a lot more of a rush!
One thing I love about driving in Germany is how the folks here stay out of the passing lane unless doing just that.

These cars handle quite well at high speeds and the M5 was truly built for such driving. Braking from over 100mph on these cars felt pretty normal to me. If you are used to driving at these speeds then its no problem.

Personally, I wouldn't favor what an individual employee (regardless of his position in the company) told me vice what is published in writing by BMW. If something did go wrong I'm sure BMW could figure out that the motor was not being run as per their recommendations and things could get ugly.

BUT

It's your car so if you are cool with it then enjoy!

At VIR with the 550i, it handled braking from 120mph+ all weekend long without a single issue, not even fade after a 30 minute session. The effort seems a bit higher than I recall with the E39M5 but the stopping power from 130mph is amazing. I could get down to 40mph in < 5 seconds with no drama whatsoever.

PS: I did my track weekend with 3000 miles on the car so no break in issues.

As you can see from the gear and the rpm, this car has more room to go but the electronic nanny was doing her job quite well

That's werid because my previous car, an 06 e60 530i, has done 260 on the speedo.

It's just one more great thing about driving in the USA - the not-so-fantastic, fun-reducing, speed govenor.

Hey K - Been thinking about you lately. I remembered last week that this was around the time you were flying out there to do ED on your new 550.

Congrats on the car man!!! I am so jealous! I can't wait to see you around town and hear about your trip. And of course, I can't wait to see the new beast!

Get home safe and I'll see you soon!

Congrats again buddy!

Perhaps you havnt had someone 100mtrs ahead of you pull out in front of you, and it takes 200mtrs to lose the speed? I have at only 120mph, and if they hadnt have moved back in, one or both of us would have been toast!

155mph will take a ballistic amount of time to stop, or drop speed to match other (say 70mph) vehicles.

I would reccomend a reality check - brake from 155 and see how long it takes - do it near a dealer as you will likely need new pads
