S , that one won't work , the car will go to sleep and the charging will stop , or worse drain ! You need the trickle charger version which you attach to the terminals under the hood............there are much cheaper versions available that are the same as the BMW version. I bought the BMW unit and could have saved a few bucks buying another brand ............good luck

I went to three auto parts stores this weekend and could not find a trickle charger that didn't look really cheap (some looked downright dangerous), other than the Battery Tender and that was $57 + tax (cheaper on-line, but have to add shipping). So, I called Garry this morning and ordered the same one westcoast550 has for $51 + shipping, which is about the same total cost and is a genuine BMW product. I'm sure there are cheaper versions out there, but I'd rather not gamble over a few bucks. Oh, and solrac, Garry confirmed what westcoast said--the cigarette lighter ones won't work on our cars. Not that I doubted Mr. westcoast....

Ive used my $35 compact battery tender on my 3 and 5 series with no problems. Very convenient, plugs into the wall and to the terminals under the hood.
