If I remeber correctly, I had ~ 1500 rpm. With my old 525i, 2nd gear would have been perfect to make the turn.

If your attempted downshift from 3 to 2 was a little late, SMG may have been attempting to do the downshift at the same time you were. If SMG executed the 3 -2 shift just before you tried, you can end up with a 3 - 2 - 1 shift. Can happen with the Step as well.

[/quote]When I test drove the 645i with SMG, I noticed that the downshifts occurred at around 800-900rpm's. This was in non-sport mode. I didn't noticed if it differed in sport mode.
