Do you have the 7-spd automatic? I drove a 05 SLK350 7spd on a few occasions and found that engine and tranny is incredible. The tranny shifts so quickly and directly. And the rain sensing wipers are telepathic and are 1000times better than the E60's.
The E is comfy and on some days I wish I had a more comfy ride ... like you said... just floating home from work.
Keep us posted about your experience with the new ride.
