My Ride: E61 525iA Build 2004/08. "Safirschwartz Metallic". Navi Pro, Adaptive Headlights, Bi-Xenon, Panorama Sunroof etc... CIP 18.00.01 (No noticed bug)

I just inspected my winter tires (ContiWinterContact TS 790). At the inside on one of the tires, I found a small "bubble"/"hill". It?s not high but it's there (see picture). What is it? Can it be fixed? Any risk of explosion or other unpleasant happenings? I've never noticed bubbles on any tire before.

Sorry, once it separates like that you need to replace the tire. It should be under warranty since it is most likely a defect in manufacturing.

Your tire is done! The structural integrity of the sidewall is gone. You should replace it as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, I too have seen many impact breaks in my time (luckilly not on my 545).

I dont' know how to tell you this, but I'm going to be straight forward and to the point...
Your tire has...an aneurysm (medical professionals will know what I'm talking about).

I'm sorry, Sir, but there's nothing we can do at this time.
Because of the aggressive lifestyle your tire had to endure, the aneurysm will eventually burst.

Only the Tire Angel can save your little winter tire now.

I have had this happen to the German made Goodyears that came on my '86 Audi. I was told this was caused by belt separation. Since the cause was a manufacture deffect, all four tires had to be eventually replaced. Once the belts separate, it's almost impossible to properly balance the tire.

The information above is from many years ago. Maybe things are different now, then maybe not.

Take it to the dealer and have them look at it. There is a chance it is a manufacturing defect and covered under the tire manufacturer's warranty. If so, then replacement is free for that one tire, which means you either live with 3 other tires with different tread depth, or splurge on 3 new tires.
