Hey guys...

I just got my car back from service last friday....i put it in becuase of the brakes.....but it seems that it is a common thing on out E60's to make the squeeking/whistling noise..and the brake dust is also common on the car. It seems that BMW uses bad brake pads and sometimes the dust itself might cause them to squeek when you apply.. Try cleaning out the pads...might work..It used to work on my OLD 02 Lexus IS300...and when the wheels got to dusty the breaks would start to squeek. I washed the car and it would work fine for a few weeks until the wheels were dirty again.

seems like a pain in the ass

Having the same problem, the dealer says its a known problem with the sensors so has ordered new ones which apparently only take 30 mins to fit. Getting it done tomorrow.

So I talked to the Service Manager yesterday. I addressed the issue to him and said that my brakes are starting to whistle and I had my brakes checked just recently and my brakes are supposed to be still very good also the iDrive indicates brakes in good standing. He told me that our 5's rotors tend to get dirty with a thin film due to brakeing conservitively. He mentioned it's like scratching on a chalk board. When scratching hard there is no sound, but once you let up a little or scratching lightly theres a screeching sound present. He recomended to apply more force to the brakes every once in a while to cure this issue.

i have the same problem, i took my car to two different dealerships and they both gave me the same crap, the said my break pads are still brand new and that they cant change them. Its not our fault BMW's break pads suck, i dont think anyone would like to drive with squeaky breaks. I changed my wheels the other day and i cleaned the break disc the caliper and everything, and still have squeaky noises. Im going the BMW for the 3rd time with my angry face on.

As noted in my previous post, I've tried this - applying the brakes hard once in a while, and yes it does seem to cure the problem - for about 30 miles, before the screech returns.... Not a good enough or permanent solution IMO, for a car that costs ?40k..............
I'll see what my local dealer has to say on the matter next week. And I'll keep trying different dealers till I get a satisfactory outcome.... I don't see why we should have to fork out for aftermarket discs/pads if the OEM ones have a design fault......

Will post any progress on this...

Im having the same problem with my e60. Took it to a local bmw dealer, they said it was "normal" for 5 series.
Im wondering if I install a BBK will it still make the squeaking noise?

If you go now to the dealership they will change them for you (they have a buffer of 6000KM)... I had mine changed at 4500KM
