Hi guys,

Hoping someone can help me here. I have an 520i 04 (54 plate)

When I try to open my boot using the button in the recess of the boot, i can not get the boot to open. I have to turn the ignition off and use the button on the key fob- this works fine, however it is inconvienient! This has not always been an issue, just started over the weekend. Is the likely cause a blown fuse? If so anybody know which one?

many thanks

I can only open mine from the trunk if all 4 doors are unlocked....if only the driver door is unlocked, I can't open the trunk from the recessed trunk pad

I might be wrong, but I don't think you can open the trunk with the car turned on using the latch on the underside of the trunk. It would be a safety issue.

Try doing it with the doors open and the ignition off. There's also a trunk release button along the driver's side footwell area.

Guys,

The car is unlocked, and I have tried all of the suggestions mentioned before posting on here. The boot will not even open without the keys in the ignition but all doors unlocked/open. This is what makes me think that a fuse may have blown?

my '03 does not have such a button, just a plastic cover where the button is supposed to be, so i guess his is like this too

i am pretty sure you can open the trunk when the car is on, it just has to be unlocked

What freaks me out is when I hit the trunk icon on my key, the alarm goes off.

Maybe this is something I can configure? Haven't looked into it but maybe the previous owner changed something. Weird.

Holding the button too long......... I did that when I first got mine, and I would jump every time You only have to hold the button for about 1-2 secs then release, and it should open. Anything longer and it acts like a "panic" button, and the alarm will go off.

You may have enabled secure locking. Insert key in trunk and twist left to disable.

Securing separately
Turn the central key with remote control in
the lock of the luggage compartment lid
beyond a resistance point to the right and
withdraw it from a horizontal position.
This locks the luggage compartment lid
and disconnects it from the central locking
system.
If you then only hand over the spare key,
refer to page 26, no access is possible via
the luggage compartment lid. This is an
advantage in a hotel, for example.
