You maybe in luck... bring the bulletin to the dealer and hope they can enable the MP3 after that see if you connect the iPod interface your self will show up in the iDrive.
In my opinion you still have to get the dealer enable the retrofit programming for the iPod interface... GL!

Possible NAV retrofit? Yes... but the cost and headache maybe a lot... search for NAV retrofit around one of the most recent one is http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=738584 but if it works the effort maybe priceless.

If I wanted a NAV retrofit, is it possible? I mean, would it cost thousands?

Yes there is, I did my own retrofit programming on my dealer when I installed my Dension GW500.
Have you work w/ BMW SSS programming station? To be exact iPod interface option is in the retrofit path it's the 2nd or 3 rd selection out of 4 pages long of retrofit option (CD Changer selection on pg #3).
And no just MP3 & CD Changer will not make iPod interface to work, 'cuz I've done it, my car is MP3 capable and have CDC prep. then I put CD Changer after a while I followed your suggestion when you first post the DIY 'bout it (you emailed me the MP3 bulletin) and don't work after all that I ended going w/ Dension GW500 and set it up as iPod interface then do a retrofit programming myself at the dealer and choose iPod and that's it.
Explain member marcw on his thread http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=733876 got MP3 & CD Changer but when he did DIY installed on the iPod didn't go and ended up getting retorfit programming (post #8 on same thread) at the dealer.
Also, member Insane Devil (bought the kit from you) on your DIY thread http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=733445 didn't work then he did retrofit programming on his overseas dealer for $30 and reported back in your DIY thread of it needs iPod retrofit coding http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=748559 to get it to work (quoted below).

Hello Roger,
firstly, sorrry for the very late feedback on ur ipod kit! i was away soon after i got it installed.
Initially when i connected it up, it didnt work. so then i took it to the dealer, and got the iPod Retrofit coding done.
The price here in India for the coding is fixed at around US$30.00 and the work took around 3-4 hours.
After the coding, the ipod is working with the iDrive and i am very happy with it. JUST PERFECT!
so all u guys out there who have hooked it and notworking, then just take it to the dealer and get it coded.
My car is with a Business Audio - NO NAV, and with CDC. so i just unplugged the CDC and put in the iPod retrofit. and did the coding.
Roger, Thanks a lot for it!

there is no such thing as iPod interface programming. If you have mp3 and CD-Changer it should work. the general population of this forum agrees to that and it has been proven several times. However, there seems to be a couple odd-ball cases where it didn't work but I would contribute that to dealers not really knowing what they are doing.
