Face it guys and gals, turbo-charging is the future. The best of both worlds, combining power with efficiency. You get a smaller/efficient engine when when you are cruising and power of a big engine when you get on it.
Works for me .

I love that rush that you get from the turbo when it kicks in. My last Audi was slower than my 530Xi on paper, but it was a 1000 times more exciting, because of the way the turbos kicked ass every time they kicked in.
And no, BMW NA is not giving us choices. Like someone mentioned, some of us would be happy with 215hp - me, for example.

This is exactly what I didn't like: no torque, some lag and then huge kick. Thanks, I prefer linear responses of NA engine rather than no power - huge power. 'Neck snapping acceleration' is a negative trait for me.

I hate turbo lag of any kind and while BMW has managed to control it with the TT, it's still there

+1 from me too...Give me the linear response of a NA engine any day.

i can only quote my diesel E60's
the 530d has "very" minimal lag, the 535d (twin turbo's) has no lag at all, its very linear as you say, and being a diesel the torque is of biblical proporsions.....(almost 600 lb/ft) and very low reving.
im a big fan of turbo charging and super charging come to that (but S/C use up too much power/energy giving you the beans)
merc kompressors are great though.
its crazy to dismiss a car before you have driven it??
thats like saying you would never buy a red car...even if it was the best thing out there.

I thort there is a mod that cuts off the leg
you can get anti lag systems for high performance engines like subraru boxer, that incorporate 2 "air" injecters, or you can use a simple "dump valve" to help, anti lag will keep the turbo vaines spinning, so is quite harsh on hard ware (used mainly on rally cars)

The problem w/ turbo motor is... SO EASY/CHEAP TO MAKE POWER w/ MODS = I'll be in trouble spending money again
I'm happy w/ my 545 now that I don't have to think about power mods
