BMW Assist Error Code 410 - Anyone know what it is?

My Ride:
Out of the blue when selecting BMW Assist my display reports
"Initialise Services"
I follow the on screen instructions and a data exchange with the server commences, but then later fails with
"Error code 410 - Please press here to contact Customer Services"
I initiate the call and was connected to Customer Services who passed me from pillar-to-post and eventually
after having connected me to the emergency services controller in case I needed them to turn out an ambulance,
I was advised to present the car to my service department; which I did on this week.
They tell me that they have no idea why the system isn't working and don't recognise error code 410.
If they don't know then perhaps someone here has some idea which may shed some light on things.
Meanwhile I'm without any concerige service while they consult with someone in Munich....

My Ride: (USA) 645Ci, Silver Gray, Chateau, Cold Weather PKG, Premium Sound PKG, Sport PKG, Step, NAV [Std Equip in 645], HUD, Satellite (SIRIUS) Radio, Aux Input, Bluetooth enabled using iPhone 3GS w/ adapter cradle - Build date - 01/05, Baby delivered 2/24/05
Sounds like TCU went bad or got deactivated. Probably the single most reported issue in BMW Service Bulletins.
