hello ,

I just joined this forum yesterday , i have 2004 545i with the sports package, i had the active steering failed and had to take it to the dealer , after doing the diagnosis the dealer wanted me to change all 4 tires and all 4 wheels , i did so and got the Khumo Escata SPT and 19 inch M5 wheels (OEM), Today i took it to the dealer and he said the wheels are not 18inch as recommended by BMW and he cant even touch the car and it will be a waste of his time.
I offered to pay for the Allignment and active steering control problem and he was a jerk and said sorry and walked away this is ridiculous and i am not sure where to go from here......
can one of u experts help me on this

Your dealer is full of sh*t! Many folks have replaced the 18" sport rims with M5 wheels with no problems. My suggestion is to try another dealer if one is close by...

Was he implying the wheels and tires had something to do with AS failure? The size of the wheel should not matter except if they are WAY over sized and cause undue stain on the steering system. By I can?t imagine anything that would fit in the wheel well could cause that kind of failure.

I'd find another dealer.

I got the impression that it was the other way around, that the dealer was telling him that the AS malfunction must have damaged the wheels and tires and they needed to be replaced. Tires maybe, but the wheels? I seriously doubt that. But ultimately it doesn't matter, this dealer is awful.

i first had the Active steering failure , the dealer said it was because my tires were completely messed, he said i need to replace all 4 wheels and tires
i called BMW corporte twice and the responses were different both times, one said if they cant pin point what caused all 4 wheel damages as the dealer claims they they have to replace it and bill it to warranty , the second one clearly said he can help .

by the way, what was the nature of the failure?.........error codes, difficult to turn, noise, demon posessed steering movements ...what?
