isn't silver just a really really really ridiculously light shade of black?

Carbon black + low light or cloudy/rainy = black
Carbon black + sunlight = dark blue

It's as if the blueness is only activated (reflected) by sunlight.

Well, I just learned that my black is called sapphire. I hadn't realized until I read this thread. I just thought it was called metallic black. Time to update the sig

Carbon Black Metallic is BLUE. Essentially, your asking to choose between blue and black. I dont think one is necessarily better than the other. Just different. Ive had both.

Jet Black. It looks the best and the meanest. The other colors are for the ladies on this forum.
I loved my Jet Black 330ci but I like sparkles so I went with the Sapphire Metallic Black this time around?. Hahah?

When I was getting my car valeted (usa=detailed), I said that I would have gone for jet black non-metallic if I'd bought the car new because the metallic option costs so much more and what do you really get for it. He told me (and remember he's not trying to sell me a car, he's a detailer guy) that it really is worth it going for the metallic. The painting process is significantly more complex with many more layers of paint and more layers of lacquer.

then your car has all this excess weight!

another reason why you should go with JET black!!!

Well put. That's exactly what I said. IMO, Carbon Black should seriously be called Carbon Blue because it has never looked black to me, even in cloudy situations.
