if you have an interest in resale value go for the black interior. I like auburn, but to the average repurchaser they will look at you car and say, hmm...silver and ?orange interior?

I had extensive discussions with the dealer about this topic. BMW is before all a pleasure to drive : selecting colors according to the resale price is for me a mistake because every day, when driving the car, you will regret not to have taken what you REALLY wanted.
I also selected auburn with orient blue, even if not recommended by the brochure. The result is awersome, at least for me. Auburn appears as very orange on the pics but irl, it is a nice light braun color which also do not absorb to much sun.

About your choice of color according to the wish to hide the side lights, I would have the same reasonning : if you like blue, take blue without any other consideration. Human being are generally adaptable and you may adapt yourself to the lights design. As you are generally INSIDE the car, it is not so important that the side design does not fit your esthetical expectations!

Nice day

I'm NOT a big fan of the exterior design of the 5-series, but I'm willing to live with it for the incredible drive as you have read in my recent 'test drive' posts.? I think it is liveable in a light color, and best as the boring but classic titanium silver - this color keeps the Dame Edna headlights and taillights to a minimum.? I love the blue, but not in this particular car.? I also LOVE the auburn interior, but it doesn't come with titanium silver in the US anymore according to the order sheets.

Anyway, since I would likely go with titanium silver, it seems that gray or black would be my choices.? The gray has some black trim inside (steering wheel, dashboard, doors except for insert, etc.) so that helps, particularly on the mats, but I'm a bit concerned about getting dirty or stained.? I've had black on my E500 and it's rather easy to keep clean, but shows dust.? Problem is, the black leather in the 5-series isn't exactly luxurious for some reason, so I'm wondering about options for a light color and a sweet, non-black interior...your vote?

Pictures are welcome!

Sounds to me that you have a love hate thing with the 5 series and you'll never be happy with any combination.IMO look for another model that you like.
cheers

Titanium Silver with black interior is allegedly the easiest combination to trade or sell in the resale market.

Looks to me like teutonictrio is polling to see which interior has the most appeal with Titanium Silver. If the sales force consistently recommends black for resale, it is likely because it appeals to a large segment of the buyers of used Bimmers. Therefore, it stands to reason that it is the most appealing combination.

I have Titanium Silver with Beige Dakota Leather (ie: the lightest colour interior possible).

It is superb. The Titanium Silver exterior always looks clean, and expands the lines of the car - it simply looks bigger and more limousine-like than all other cars in its class.

And the interior - the light beige leather seats expand the apparent size of the interior, making the car feel far more roomy. Plus, it looks more expensive.

The added bonus comes at night.

When I approach my car and blip the locks, the interior lights up completely, the light leather seats seem to shine along with the lights themselves. The inside of the car becomes bathed with light. It's beautiful, and very classy.

I had a silver / black interior car for a few days as a loaner. It's only half the experience.

I'm not sure that the most buyed combination is the most appealed.

I admit that used car buyers tend to prefer black leather (I work in a dealer and I hear what they say) but a lot of customers prefer the beige leather aestethically, but then they just don't want to risk.

I love the light beige leather of my touring, but a lot of persons who look at the car tell me 'how can you keep it clean?' I have to say the car now has run for 30.000 Km, I carry a dog (with some attention) and the interior is still in optimal conditions. In case there is a problem, you clean it just like you would do with the black leather.

Cheers

The headlights and design of the car is what many us bought the car for. If you need to hide these, then its best to stick with the MB or maybe go for something else that appeals more to your taste. You'll never like the E60 no matter how you force yourself to.

To me, the E60 is beautiful no matter what color scheme you select. Some like it dark whilst others prefer it light; but NONE chose colors to hide its lines and lights.
